NYC Pulse
Editorial Policy
How we report, what we stand for, and how we hold ourselves accountable
Independence
NYC Pulse operates without corporate ownership, institutional alignment, or editorial direction from advertisers. No source of funding has the ability to shape, kill, or delay our coverage. Our editorial decisions are made by our editors and reporters, accountable to our readers and to the standards of the profession.
Verification Standards
We do not publish claims we cannot verify. Every factual assertion in our reporting is either sourced to a named individual, a documented record, or multiple independent sources. We clearly distinguish between confirmed facts, official statements, and characterizations. When a source asks to speak anonymously, we document the specific reasons and obtain editorial approval before granting anonymity.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we correct it in the article itself, at the top of the piece, with a clear description of what was incorrect and what the correct information is. We do not delete corrections or bury them. The correction remains as part of the article’s permanent record.
Conflicts of Interest
Reporters and editors disclose financial interests, personal relationships, or prior associations that could affect their coverage. When a conflict exists that cannot be managed through disclosure, the reporter recuses from that story. We do not accept gifts, travel, or compensation from sources or institutions we cover.
AI Assistance
NYC Pulse uses AI tools to assist with certain aspects of content production, including research, drafting, and distribution. All AI-assisted content is reviewed, edited, and approved by human journalists before publication. AI tools do not make editorial decisions; those remain with our editorial team. We disclose AI use where relevant to the story.
Right of Reply
When our reporting contains significant factual claims about named individuals or organizations, we offer them the opportunity to respond before publication. We note their response or their decision not to respond in the published piece. We do not remove critical reporting in exchange for advertising or favorable coverage.
