Nathan Fielder, Elizabeth Holmes Doubles Pack Washington Sq.

Nathan Fielder, Elizabeth Holmes Doubles Pack Washington Sq.

Blonde wigs, wide unblinking eyes and a lot of laptops: Washington Square Park had its latest look-alike spectacle Sunday afternoon, and this one belonged to “You Can See Everything.”

Dozens of people gathered at the Washington Square arch around 1 p.m. dressed as either filmmaker Nathan Fielder or Elizabeth Holmes, the subject of the hit documentary, according to amNewYork’s account of the event. The film follows Holmes in the stretch just over a month before she is set to report to federal prison for defrauding investors in her company Theranos.

The costume code was clear. Those going as Holmes wore blonde wigs and stared wide-eyed in an effort to capture her likeness. The Fielders swung headphones around their necks and carried laptops.

A large crowd ringed the arch to watch, cheer and vote for the many Fielders and Holmeses. Look-alike contests have become a viral sensation, especially in Washington Square Park, amNewYork noted, and in the past the likes of Timothee Chalamet have made guest appearances.

Sunday’s guest MC was Kor Skeete, who appeared in Fielder’s “The Rehearsal.” “Nobody knew me from Adam, and this show launched into a big stratosphere overnight,” Skeete told amNewYork. “Nathan and I became friends, and I’m thankful that this opportunity came for him.”

Co-organizer Maddie West said the point was simply to get people in the same place. “We’re getting community together. I feel like a lot of people are isolated โ€” we’re on our phones all the time. No one really wants to talk in person, or we’re all just like busy people. So, doing an event like this is just getting people together to do something fun,” West said, per amNewYork.

Each contestant made a pitch to the crowd, and when the voting ended, comedian Nicole Travolta took the Holmes crown while PR worker Joe Sivick won as Fielder. Both have been living in their characters for years, though in different ways.

Travolta told amNewYork she has been doing Holmes impressions for three years. “I mean, she doesn’t blink, it’s very in the mouth, the voice, and it kind of all just comes together. Hours of front-facing camera,” she said. “My Instagram family is why I’m here.”

Sivick said he has dressed as Fielder for several Halloweens. “I’ve been a big fan of Nathan for a really long time, and I think the spirit of Nathan is just comedy, it’s humor. It’s getting out and having fun,” he said. He added that he was nervous and hadn’t eaten breakfast yet, and that winning was a first. “I don’t think I’ve really ever won anything. So, to win something like this for someone who I admire so much, it’s kind of the honor of my life.”

With Halloween days away, the turnout offered an early preview of costume season in Greenwich Village.
