NYC Digital Network
Yasin Kaya
Founder & Editor-in-Chief, NYC Digital Network
In 2024, Yasin Kaya looked at New York City’s media landscape and saw a gap that wasn’t being filled. The major outlets were consolidating — shrinking local desks, cutting neighborhood reporters, replacing editorial judgment with engagement metrics. New York City — eight million people, five boroughs, hundreds of distinct communities — was being increasingly covered from a distance, by institutions that had stopped believing that local news could be sustainable.
Kaya is a digital media entrepreneur and technologist who came to New York with a career that crossed the lines between software development, content strategy, and editorial leadership. He understood both the technical infrastructure that modern publishing requires and the editorial values that make publishing worth doing.
The NYC Digital Network, which Kaya founded and leads as Editor-in-Chief, comprises four editorial publications: NYC Restaurant Voice (food & dining), NYC Business Pulse (commerce & real estate), Made in NYC (arts & culture), and NYC Pulse (politics & breaking news). Each has its own editorial team, its own voice, and its own community of readers — united by a conviction that New York City deserves journalism that takes it seriously.
“Local journalism doesn’t fail because readers don’t care. It fails because the models built to support it stopped serving readers and started serving advertisers. We’re building something that puts the reader first.”
