NYC Pulse
Advertising Policy
Our commitment to editorial independence from advertising
NYC Pulse does not currently accept display advertising. We are an editorially independent publication funded through direct reader support and the NYC Digital Network. Our coverage decisions are made without regard to advertising relationships — because we don’t have any.
Why We Don’t Run Ads
The advertising model has been among the most significant forces shaping — and distorting — local journalism over the past two decades. Publications that depend on advertising revenue face structural pressure to avoid stories that might displease advertisers, to prioritize traffic-friendly content over accountability journalism, and to frame coverage in ways that protect commercial relationships. We chose not to build that pressure into our model from the start.
Sponsored Content
We do not publish sponsored content, native advertising, or content marketing of any kind. Every story on NYC Pulse is editorial content produced by our journalists, with no commercial arrangement behind it. If that ever changes, we will say so explicitly.
Press Releases
We accept press release submissions through our submission form. Submitting a press release does not guarantee coverage and does not constitute an advertising relationship. Editorial decisions about press release coverage are made purely on news value.
Future Policy
If we ever develop an advertising program, this policy will be updated in full before any ads appear on the site. Any future advertising program will maintain a strict editorial/advertising firewall — advertisers will have no influence over editorial content, and editorial staff will have no knowledge of or involvement in advertising relationships.
